The Pirate Primer Mastering the Language of Swashbucklers Rogues George Choundas Books

This is a good book. Very well put together. A lot of information as well as all the jargon you'd need to know to play pirate.

That said, I've had the book for a couple weeks and the pages are starting to fall out already. I've worked at a printing company, so I know what goes into producing something like this. I mean, you can't expect soft cover books to last long, but if it's falling apart already it means someone wasn't paying attention to quality. I assume all the books aren't like this...but it's likely a good quantity are.

Handle with extreme care.

The Pirate Primer Mastering the Language of Swashbucklers Rogues George Choundas Books Reviews

ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL!!!!

Choundas has written an incredible book that is absolutely imperative for those of us living on the tide winds of pyrate lore! And for those who love ANY pyrate movie, from Treasure Island to Pirates of the Caribbean, will absolutely enjoy this book. Complete with pyrantical insults!
I can't put it down! It's a dictionary and I can't put it down!

This may be the first time I've read every page of a dictionary. Plus it has grammar helps, and general culture to feed any need you have to communicate, or just think, in 'pirate'!

If you want to be a pirate, this book will get you there; shy of teaching ultra-violence and general disdain for humanity. But you can get schooled in those practically anywhere. Until you've familiarized yourself with this work, you still won't communicate as a pirate. Ergo, you won't be a pirate, just an illiterate thug. But, when you can think and talk in 'pirate', then you don't need to know how to club that idiot over there. You'll have the wherewithall to just do whatever comes naturally, you will.
The Pirate Primer Mastering The Language Of Swashbucklers And Rogues by George Choundas is a must-have for any would-be buccaneer! This hefty book, I mean hefty, is not only a pirate dictionary of extraordinary girth but a literary source as well. This fellow Choundas must have had an obsession with Pirate Pop Culture because he mined everything from movies, to TV shows, novels, historical reference volumes, even the Disney Park ride for material for this book. Divided into handy and very logical parts, making it easy to get right to the info you need, i.e. Threats, Curses, Oath, Insults and Boarding Terms, In the heat of Battle terms, Nautical terms, and getting down to the nitty-grity of sentence structure and style, this book is way more than you could ever imagine until you see it! I was so very pleasantly surprised upon receipt of this book and haven't been able to get my nose out of it. It is also very handsome. My hard cover edition is period-looking enough to set out at the Pirate Faire as a prop, with its leather-like brown cover and its parchment-style pages and old-timey font. You won't be disappointed, mates!
Ahh... such a good read... for my pirate-obsessed husband. I mean, I'm into Johnny Depp just like any other female, but a book with everything in it? Come on! Okay, I admit it's good stuff. Interesting, educational, everything you could want in a pirate book. This was an awesome gift for my husband that I enjoy perusing. I'm sure my children will grow up knowing all-things-pirate and be better people for it. Right?!
Every fall on September 19th is the official "Speak Like a Pirate" day.

Being college educated and removed by some 300 years from that time period...I needed a helping hand. The pirate Primer provided that helping hand. Now I can stand before my students each year on September 19th, and instruct them in the science of chemistry like a true scally-wag.

It's a very in depth book that instructs one on the proper linguistics of the pirate lingo...so don't sit there like a land lubber...hoist your mainsal and set a course 'wards bein a better lad o the sea.
The book arrived yesterday and I spent hours last night perusing it learning about all things pirate. I'm not a pirate groupie or anything, but I got sucked in. I kept thinking I'd put the book down any minute to go fix dinner . . . watch TV . . . go to bed . . . you get the idea. The book is just fun. There is a hidden treasure quest at the back of the book. Even though the "contest" is officially over, I had fun just messing around with the clues, which would lead me to other discoveries, which would lead to even more cool stuff. Before I knew it, I'd lost the evening just playing with this book. It is certainly not a book you would sit down and read cover to cover, it's in more of a dictionary or encyclopedia format than a book of prose, but its entries are fascinating, and you can quickly while away the hours trying to solve the puzzle, learning the lingo for every situation a pirate might encounter, and learning to insult your friends and enemies in pirate-speak.
If you're even remotely interested in pirates, do yourself a favor and get a copy of this book.
I was surprised at the amount of information contained in the Pirate Primer! While I'm a pirate aficionado, I was surprised at how much new information I came across in this book. There are several pirate books out, but this is probably the best one I've come across. I'd highly recommend the book to anyone interested in pirates!

The book is an impressively large collection of pirate words and phrases, collected from a wide variety of sources. My favorite part is that the book lists the source(s) for all the terms inside it, so you know exactly where the term was pulled from. There are several sections, including commands, curses, cultural terms, and many, many more! The book also includes pronunciation guides for each entry, as well as an entire section for piratical grammar and variations thereof (of which there are many).

Also, the book has an impressive cover and a good size, and makes a nice addition to the bookshelf. It's sparked more than one conversation with house guests!
This is a good book. Very well put together. A lot of information as well as all the jargon you'd need to know to play pirate.
