This was a very "light" friends to lovers story which was easy to read but which I will have forgotten tomorrow. It's not the best rendition of this trope I've read, but it kept my interest to the last page. I must admit though that my desire to turn the page flagged a little at the half-way point. The writing was only okay and there were some editorial "misses" which were annoying (things like forgetting what they were eating from one page to the next, etc. Nothing critical but still...) but in all I was able to suspend my disbelief and enjoy the story. Basically both H/h were very young (24) and they were both sort of silly (Ben gets worried cause he's been sleeping only with ONE person for TWO weeks?? ) The emotions were not conveyed as well as in some of Layne's later work: her writing has improved since she wrote this one. But in all, if you're already a Layne fan (which I have recently become) it is worth a read!Tags : Blurred Lines (Love Unexpectedly) - Kindle edition by Lauren Layne. Blurred Lines Love Unexpectedly edition by Lauren Layne Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Lauren did such an amazing job with this book! I really loved Parker's character and the relationship between her and her best friend Ben. He's your typical one and done kinda guy when he hooks up with a girl, but he has such a likable personality you can't help but fall for him. And when him and Parker wind up sleeping together the complications they were hoping to avoid start to come to light when feelings start to get involved. Suddenly it all starts to fall apart and friendships are on the line. You feel the highs of their happiness and the lows of their pain as they try to navigate through it all.
I loved reading their story and could definitely see myself reading this book again. It is now one of my favorite friends to lovers romance books. It was written so well, and it's one of those books you just can't put down once you start it. In fact, I sat up reading this book for 5 hours straight because I just couldn't stop reading it. Who needs sleep anyway, right? I highly recommend this book and I will definitely be looking into other books by Lauren Layne!
I had no intentions of finding a new author to add to my ever growing to be read pile, but that's exactly what happened. I came across this author with Walk of Shame, which was a cute, "enchanted" Rom-com. I liked it so much that I looked in Goodreads to see what else she had and liked the sound of this this book. Oh my gosh, I could just gush over Ben. I loved the relationship between him and Parker, their squabbles, their dedication to the friendship first, that Ben dropped everything the second Parker needed him, and that he always put her happiness first and foremost above his own. There were some decisions that Parker made that I didn't really care for, but I think she had to make them in order to see what was lacking in one hand that was in abundance on the other hand. While the friends to lovers story has been told a billion times, the author managed to make This one unique, standing on its own merit. This was a sweet best friends to friends-with-benefits story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait to keep reading more books by this author.
I gave this book a three star not because the story wasn't cute it was but they were a few errors that drove me a little nutty. For instance the author describe an outfit that our heroine wore out on girls night out , but the next page our hero describe a totally different outfit ,,ok ...then another time she visits her parents for dinner and her mom says enchiladas are in the oven ...then the next page she is so full after having two helping of lasagna. Ok again.. ..names of people were mention throughout the book and I found myself rechecking the page before just to make sure it was the same name ..
Ben and Parker met in college they became besties and after college they even moved in together.
Ben is fun and his always hooking up ( it's funny when his hook ups meet his girl roomie Parker ) Parker on the other hand is in a serious relationship for the same time Ben has been hooking up . Parker is unexpectedly single and she proposes this idea to Ben about them maybe hooking up and having fun without all the trappings of a serious relationship and it works really well ..too well in fact .Ben is a really nice guy and Parker and he try to find a balance between the friends to lovers line .
Friends to lovers is my favorite type of romance. I really liked Ben and Parker (cool names, too). Their snappy dialogue was lots of fun (except for the converstion about Parker not wanting to have flatulence while making love--that was silly--I'm probably in the minority who doesn't think jokes about that are funny. Parker seemed like someone I'd like for a friend (although I'm more the age of her mom). Speaking of parents, I loved Parker's mom and dad. They reminded me of my parents, especially the talks Parker and Ben had with her mom. My mom and I are very close, and my husband was close to her, too--they had lots of talks like Parker's mom and Ben did. Ben's parents should be glad they had a son with a good job even though he didn't pick the same career as his brother or sister. And they should be proud of him! The love scenes were good, but my favorite parts were the scenes that led up to the love scenes like walking along the beach holding hands.
I'm looking forward to reading other books in this series.
